Disastrous if he doesn't resign
Lot of assets for a guy with only 1 year left |

If Lucic plays at over 80% of his capability, LA has done amazing. He can change a game with his play, that's how much of a factor he is.
Sweeney got hosed on this due to the picks he made at the draft but I have to admit he has done well with all other deals not named Hamilton. |

I feel that atm the trade is a win for Boston. But if LA can get him signed to a non 6+mil a year deal and he produces. I think it'll end up being a even trade for both team. Would hate the see LA once again give up a 1st round pick for a rental. But I sure hope the big focus is on getting Kopi locked down. |

I get the feeling from things I've read hes not really a locker room kinda guy. All about him all the time. If its true, its unfortunate for the kings.
I was happy when I heard the Canucks didnt get him. |

Unless Voynov's contract and Richards becomes completely void, I just don't see how you guys can resign him. Otherwise, no real issues. |

If a grievance is filed by the NHLPA (Which seems inevitable) and the ruling is upheld, the Kings will likely have to use a regular buyout on top of paying a penalty or something. So it is not quite certain yet how much that hit will end up being. |

I truly believe that Lucic does not have the attitude of a champion and he has the potential to severely divide a locker room. He has all of the tools, but there is something that is not firing properly in his brain. Until this changes, I don't think he should be on a contending team. LA certainly does not need more headaches.

yet the oilers were connected to trade for him when the chance was there. Okay man Any team would want lucic on their team. |

I doubt Chiarelli would target a player from his former team that he knew had huge locker room issues and wasn't a winner.
Jason really well written article can't really comment because you were spot on in taking into account all angles and factors behind this trade. I appreciate all the research as opposed to reading a piece that's purely speculation or conjecture. |

who would not want one of the toughest, hard hitting, power forward, intimidating forward who has the skillset to both be that physical presence and scoring winger? Lucic will be excellent for LA, he fits their system and will be useful in the playoffs to wear down their opponents. Excellent trade for the Kings. The only reason Chicago won this year is because LA missed the playoffs. LA missing the playoffs means nothing, because when they are in the playoffs they play a different game. LA will make the playoffs next season and i am banking on them to win it all. |

so you are saying you hate the trade? implying you need more prospects. The time is now to win more cups just as Chicago is doing. |

I think most likely scenario is he has a monster year on the top line and maybe prices himself out of LA. If it results in LA bring in home another cup it's totally worth it. I'd rather the kings go all in with a roster that is ready to contend than hold onto assets so they can be "competitive" for a decade. |

Oh plz Hawks would have handled LA if they hypothetically would have made the playoffs. You are over rating Lucic and the Kings in general.

This was how I viewed the trade as well. I think we overpaid a bit with the first rounder, but still won the trade because we got the best player in the deal. It will be exciting to see Lucic on the Kopitar line this year.
Great article, well researched. |

I would rather the lines look more like this. I do like the looks of that second line you got though. We'll see when season comes. I'm sure there will be some mixing and matching
Lucic Kopitar Gaborik
Pearson Carter Toffoli
King Shore Brown/Weal |

Dean already said he envisions
Lucic-kopitar -gaborik
Pearson-carter-toffoli
That leaves the 6 million dollar captain on the 3rd line to get his 15 goals and 20 assists using his patented pull drag and fall down move. |

Can't see how signing Lucic long-term would benefit the Kings salary structure. As Jason pointed out, they'll have to re-sign Kopitar, and in another couple years they're going to have to re-sign Toffoli again, and Tyler isn't going to settle for the same kind of contract he just signed after what Buffalo and Columbus did to upset the salary structure for younger players. They also don't need another player who's going to wear down himself in the process of wearing down other players. How many more years do they have to pay Brown? The Kings should focus on perhaps becoming a faster and quicker skating team rather than just trying to grind their opponents into the ice every game. |
